Elsa Beskow was born in
Stock holm in 1864. At a very early
age she started to concoct little
stories, by age seven young Elsa
deter mined that what she wanted
to do in life was to write fairy tales
and to draw pictures to go with them.
She eventually studied at the College
of Arts & Crafts to become an art
teacher. Her first book came out
when she was 23 years old in 1897.
She wrote a total of nearly 40 books.
Her six sons acted as models for her
fairy tale figures, as she preferred
to draw from life. Elsa Beskow
died in 1953, her last book being
published the year before.
